The Bottleneck (The SaaS Trap): Mid-market companies are migrating to Odoo to escape expensive ERP licenses, but they fall into a new trap: cloud lock-in (Odoo.sh or Odoo Online). They lose direct access to their own databases, pay per-user subscription fees, and struggle to connect external IoT or legacy APIs due to cloud restrictions. The Sovereign Architecture (My Solution): I engineered a 100% self-hosted, enterprise-grade Odoo environment built on the "Thick Database" philosophy. Core: Dockerized Odoo Community deployment with direct, secure access to the underlying PostgreSQL database for advanced BI and custom SQL triggers. Security & RBAC: Integrated Authentik as the Identity Provider (IdP) to enforce Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) across the entire ERP perimeter. External Gateway: Deployed an n8n automation layer connected directly to Odoo's XML-RPC API and PostgreSQL. This handles heavy document generation, external webhooks, and third-party syncing (e.g., QBO/Xero) without bloating the Odoo core with custom Python code. CI/CD: Automated zero-downtime deployments via SSH pipelines. Custom Docker & Library Dependencies: Unlike Odoo.sh or Odoo Online, which restrict system-level installations, I build custom Docker images. This allows seamless integration of heavy external Python packages (e.g., Pandas for advanced analytics, ML libraries) and custom JavaScript frameworks directly into the Odoo environment, ensuring zero bottlenecks for your unique business logic.
